Spam and Phishing Emails - What to do if you receive one

Please do not click on suspicious links, always verify the sender's address, and be suspicious of any new or unique requests for information. If you don't usually receive requests or documents from a particular staff member, that would be an indicator of a possible threat. The superintendent and senior staff will not ask for personal information from employees, especially through large group emails.

If you receive an email you suspect to be Spam or Phishing, please use the following steps to report the email:

  • Report the email as Phishing directly within the email by clicking on the 'more' menu (three dots to the right of the sender's name and Reply arrow), select Report Phishing.

  • This process notifies the IT team automatically so we can take the appropriate actions to secure the compromised account.
  • After it has been reported, you can safely delete the message.
  • If you clicked the link in the email, it is a best practice to change your password in your Bethel Portal. Instructions on changing your Portal password can be found on page 14 of the article:   Portal User Guide
  • If you clicked the link in the email and entered your credentials, contact the Help Desk immediately.  This helps us keep the your accounts and the network secure and prevents future attacks.
